Cassandro and the Ambitious Student

Tuesday: Speed (1936)

Terry is a test driver for a car company. Jane is the new publicist for the company. She is immediately attracted to Terry. He's a great driver and is very knowledgable about cars. Terry is developing a new carburetor. He struggles to get it to work. Jane convinces him to work with an engineer. Unfortunately that engineer, Frank, is also attracted to Jane. Terry can't trust Frank. He doesn't know if Frank really wants to make the best car or just please Jane. Eventually they test the carburetor by entering in the Indy 500 and speed trials at Muroc Dry Lake. I thought this movie was alright. I mostly watched it because it's a James Stewart movie I haven't seen.

Friday: Cassandro (2023)

This is based on a true story. Saul is a gay man who is an amateur wrestler.  He started out as a luchador with a mask. But then his new trainer convinces him to be an exotico character when he wrestles. Exoticos don't have masks and are usually dressed in drag. Saul works hard to be a good wrestler and to put on a show. He rises to international fame. This movie was good.  It is mostly in spanish with some english mixed in.

Saturday: Honor Society (2022)

Honor is a very ambitious student who is determined to go to Harvard. Her best chance is to get an interview set up with the friend of her pervy guidance counselor. She thinks she's on the right track to convincing him to set up the interview. Then she finds out she is one of four students he is considering. So Honor comes up with a plan to create distractions for the other three so they will get bad grades and she will be at the top. Part of the plan includes seducing on of the three, Michael. But she finds herself really falling for him. Her plan takes some unexpected turns. I thought this movie was good. It has sort of a twist ending. You would guess that the three would find out, hate her for a bit, and then forgive her and it all ends well. It doesn't end like that (although still a good ending), which is refreshing. It's nice for it to not be so predictable.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

He will get Dan and the four women onto Bob Crosby's TV show. And he will get their friends at the local deli to put up the money for it. The group is excited. They start working hard to put together some routines. Only problem is they don't actually have a spot on the show yet. Lew hasn't even been able to talk to anyone from the show. I liked this movie.
