Spider-Punk and the Flamin' Hot Chips

 Tuesday: Kill or Cure (1962)

Jeroboam is a private detective. He is hired by wealthy woman to follow someone. She will cover his hotel expenses so he can be onsite at the resort where she needs him. When he gets there he finds out it is a health club with strict rules. His client gets poisoned before he can formally meet her. Her assistant was also poisoned but survived. Jeroboam tries to find out who poisoned them. After another death a reward is put out for anyone who can find the killer. The resort's main doctor, Rumbelow, wants the money so he starts to investigate. He thinks the killer is Jeroboam. Likewise Jeroboam suspects Rumbelow. After realizing they are innocent they work together to solve the case. I thought this movie was alright. It is a comedy.

Friday: Flamin' Hot (2023)

This is based on a true story. Richard is a latino man who has had a rough childhood. After spending some time as a gangster he decides to go clean. After struggling to get a job, he gets hired to be a janitor at Frito Lay. Richard is fascinated by the whole process. He wants to learn everything he can. An engineer takes him under his wing and teaches Richard about how all the machines work. The company starts to struggle. There are layoffs. Richard comes up with a new flavor for the chips. With the help of his wife they make them very spicy. This will be very popular in the latino community. It will help to boost sales. The head of the company takes a chance on Richard and goes with his idea. It's a success and Richard's life changes forever. This is a good movie. Some of it is a little cheesy, but on the whole still good. It's good to have more latino representation. Not sure if latino is the correct word nowadays.

Saturday: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)

Miles is struggling to balance school, his home life, and being Spider-Man. One day Gwen comes to visit him. She tells him about this secret society of Spider people from other dimensions. They are working together to protect the Spider-Verse. A new villain has risen, Spot. He can create black holes. His power is growing and he is becoming more dangerous. Miles wants to help but he is not accepted by the society. Still he has to save the day. I don't want to say too much more and give it away. I thought this movie was really good. The animation is amazing. So many different styles all together. Seeing all the different Spider people is fun. My favorite is Spider-Punk. Although I have to admit I couldn't understand everything he said with his Cockney accent. I forgot this was a two part movie. I guess luckily we only have to wait a year for the next one.

Sunday: A Good Person (2023)

A young woman, Allison, is engaged to be married. She is traveling to the big city with her soon to be sister-in-law and brother-in-law. They end up getting in horrible accident. Only Allison survives. She struggles with guilt and ends her engagement. While healing from her injuries she becomes addicted to Oxy. She tries to get better and starts to go to NA meetings. There she runs into her would have been father-in-law, Daniel. They start to bond and he tries to help her. The relationship is complicated. This movie was alright.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

Once in the city she meets another Broadway hopeful, Dan. None of them are having luck getting work. The women's and Dan's agent, Lew, comes up with an idea. He will get Dan and the four women onto Bob Crosby's TV show. And he will get their friends at the local deli to put up the money for it. The group is excited. They start working hard to put together some routines. Only problem is they don't actually have a spot on the show yet. Lew hasn't even been able to talk to anyone from the show. I liked this movie. It is fun. Tuesday: Paper Moon (1973)         Addie is a young girl who's mother passed away.
