Birdy and the Revolutionary Violinist

 Tuesday: Summertime (1955)

Jane is a single middle aged woman finally going on her dream vacation. She has always wanted to go to Venice. Jane puts up a front that she is independent and confident. Really she is very lonely. On one of her first nights she meets a handsome Italian man. They continue to run into each other. Soon they fall hard for each other. All seems well. But the romance is doomed. He is married and she has to go home. I thought this movie was good. Katherine Hepburn is Jane.

Wednesday: Anything's Possible (2022)

A confident black trans girl named Kelsa is in her senior year of high school. She has mostly been focused on school and her friends. Then she learns that the guy she has a crush on, Khal, likes her too. Unfortunately her friend, Em, likes him as well. After a mix up Em thinks Khal likes her and is about to ask her out. Instead he asks Kelsa out. This causes a rift between the two friends. Also others in the school have an issue with Khal dating a trans girl. Khal and Kelsa decide to not pay attention to it and just get to know each other. They get along really well. But soon the drama catches up with them. This movie was alright. It's cute, just not the best.

Friday: Chevalier (2022)

This is based on a true story. It takes place in the time leading up to the revolution in France. Joseph is a biracial violinist. His father was a wealthy white man and his mother a slave. From a young age he was a talented violin player. His father got him into a good boarding school. He was not accepted by almost everyone because of his race. Yet his status rises due to his talent. Marie Antionette takes a liking to him. She makes him Chevalier de Saint-Georges. They also become friends. Joseph wants to be the head of the Paris opera. He ends up competing for the job against an English composer. They each put on an opera and whoever has the best one gets the job. Joseph finds a talented female opera singer to star in his show. They fall in love despite all that stand in between them, including her husband. Joseph turns into a revolutionary in the end. I thought this was a good movie. His story was purposely wiped from history. Scholars recently found out about him. I'm glad his story is being told.

The best way for them to make more money is to marry Birdy off. When she hears about this she does all she can to repel suitors. Birdy doesn't want to marry anyone. She struggles with growing up and realizing what is really important. This movie was good.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...
