Kang and the Frenemies

 Monday: Blackbird (2019)

Lily is a terminally ill mother of two. Her health is rapidly deteriorating. She has a plan to take medicine that will end her life before things get any worse. Her family gathers for one last weekend before she dies. Her oldest comes with her husband and teenage son. Her youngest comes with her partner. The two daughters are conflicted about what their mom is doing. Everyone tries to have a nice weekend but tensions run high and drama ensues. I thought this movie was alright.

She decides to do it one day and realizes that she has a passion for puzzles. She travels to the city to get more puzzles. There she sees an ad for someone seeking a puzzle partner. Agnes decides to give them a call. A man answers named Robert. They set up a meeting. He is wealthy ex inventor. He needs a partner for a puzzle competition. Despite being very different they bond over their love for puzzles. Their relationship grows. Agnes starts making changes in her home life that impacts everyone. This movie was alright.

Wednesday: Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009)

One day when Parker gets off the train after work he sees a puppy. He can't find the owner. Not knowing what else to do he takes the puppy home. His wife is adamant that they can't have a dog. She doesn't even want it in the house. The next day Parker puts up posters trying to find the owner. No one comes forward. Parker has bonded with the puppy and named it Hachi (from the Japanese symbol on his collar). His wife gives in and lets him keep Hachi. Parker and Hachi share a strong bond. When he's older Hachi starts walking with Parker to the train station and then is waiting there when Parker comes home. Unfortunately Parker falls ill and dies. Still every day Hachi goes to the train station to wait for him. For 10 years until he too passes away. I thought this movie was alright. It was a little cheesy. It's based on a true story in Japan.

Saturday: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)

Scott is adjusting to life after being an Avenger. After bailing Cassie out of jail he discovers what she's been up to. She has her own suit like his. She also has built a machine that sends a signal to the quantum realm. Cassie shows this to Scott, Hope, Hank, and Janet. When Janet  finds out she tries to shut it down. She tries to tell them how dangerous the quantum realm is. It's too late. They are all  sucked into the quantum realm. Scott and Cassie are separated from the others. They discover there are beings living down there. From them they learn of Kang. He is powerful being who has conquered the realm and destroyed many worlds. He needs something from Scott. Janet and the others try to find Scott and Cassie. She slowly reveals what happened while she was stuck in the realm for 30 years. Kang finds them and tries to get what he needs to escape. I thought this movies was good. Not the best but still good. I think Kang is an interesting villain. I'm looking forward to seeing more of him. I also enjoyed a cameo in the second end credits.

Sunday: RRR (2022)

This is an Indian film. It takes place before India gets its independence from England. A young girl is taken from a small village by the wife of a powerful British governor. A strong hunter, Bheem, from the village is tasked with getting her back. The English learn of this and challenge their soldiers to find Bheem. The only problem being they have no idea what he looks like or where he could be. Ram, an Indian man who is a soldier for the British, takes on the challenge. He knows the hunter will be in the city already. As fate would have it both men witness a train accident on a bridge. A young boy is trapped by flames with a train car about to fall on him. The two men team up and save the boy. They becomes instant best friends. Not knowing who the other truly is. When they do discover it the results are explosive. This movie is good. I have never seen a Bollywood film before. I will say this movie pretty cheesy. There is lots of slow motion. You get whiplash from going between this cheesy bromance to super violent scenes. They overact. Almost like a soap opera. But maybe that's just the Bollywood style? It is still really well done, with some great action scenes.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...
