Kimi and the Fake Thief

 Monday: Pressure Point (1962)

A black psychiatrist tells a college about a difficult patient he had when he worked at a prison. The patient was an American Nazi. The patient was having black outs and fainting spells. The doctor didn't want to work with him. The patient would say horrible things about Jews and Black people. About the plans they had for the U.S. He was filled with hate. But clearly there was something else hurting him and causing the black outs. The doctor didn't have a choice but to treat the patient. I thought this movie was alright.

Tuesday: Whipsaw (1935)

Vivian, along with two other thieves, come up with a plan to steal some pearls. The pearls are worth a lot of money. They plan to take them after the owner disembarks a ship in NYC. It does not go according to plan and they go into hiding. Vivian is contacted and told to travel west. As she prepares to leave she meets Ross. Ross presents himself as a fellow thief down on his luck. He persuades Vivian to let him help her go west. He is an undercover cop and she knows it. Still she plays along. They both become compromised. This is a good movie. Not the best but decent.

Wednesday: Call Jane (2022)

This movie is set in the late 60s. Joy is pregnant with her second child. She learns that she has a fatal heart condition. The pregnancy aggravates it. The only cure is an abortion. Joy doesn't want to die and leave her family behind. She wants an abortion. No one will give her one because they are illegal. Even though her life is in danger. She finds a group of women, who all go by Jane on the phone to remain anonymous, who run an underground abortion clinic. Joy starts to work with them after her abortion and becomes an activist. I thought this movie was good. It was filmed before Roe vs Wade was overturned. But is very timely. Abortions save lives. It's the woman's choice, no one else's.

Friday: Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody (2022)

This is based on a true story. Whitney was a young woman with an amazing voice. She sang in her church choir and backup for her mom at a club. She meets Robyn. They become friends and then girlfriends. Whitney gets discovered and her career takes off. Robyn becomes her assistant. They breakup and remain friends. Whitney starts to date men. She meets Bobby Brown. They fall in love. Their relationship is bad from the start. They get into drugs. Whitney's career starts to suffer. She does her best to keep going. This movie was alright.

Sunday: Kimi (2022)

Angela is agoraphobic and has OCD. Covid only made things worse for her. She works in tech for a company that sells in home computer systems (like Siri or Alexa). Not sure how to word that. Angela helps resolve issues. One day she hears a recording of a crime being committed. She tries to report it. No one takes is seriously. Angela doesn't realize she has uncovered something much darker. I thought this was a good movie. Entertaining.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...
