Dracula and the Matchstick Mystery

 Monday: Horror of Dracula (1958)

Jonathan is a monster hunter. His latest target is Dracula. He goes to Dracula's castle pretending to be a book cataloger. Jonathan plans to kill Dracula. Dracula discovers Jonathan's plan and kills him. Then Dracula goes after Jonathan's family. Van Helsing is a friend of Jonathan. After receiving a letter from Jonathan before his death, he goes to Johnathan's family. He want to protect them and kill Dracula. This movie was alright. The special effects, especially with the vampire makeup were interesting. Not really scary just creepy.

Friday: Till (2022)

This is based on a true story. Emmett grew up in Chicago with his mother Mamie. He is a sweet and friendly young teenage boy. In 1955 Emmett goes to Mississippi to visit family.  Having grown up in the north he doesn't fully understand how different it is for black people in the south. One day when visiting a store owned by a white family, Emmett innocently flirts with the white woman working in the store. She gets her gun and chases them away. Later a group of men come to his relatives house and take him away. Emmett is lynched and his body is found later in the river. Propelled by her grief Mamie wants to show the world what happened to her son. She doesn't want it to happen to anyone else. She becomes a civil rights activist. I thought this movie was good. Good but sad. Apparently lynching didn't become illegal till this year. 67 years after Emmet was killed. That is so ridiculous. I could maybe see 5 years, but 67, that's crazy. It makes me so mad. We have to do better.

Saturday: Double Feature- Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2022) and The Good Nurse (2022)

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is the partially true story of Weird Al. Al grew up always knowing he was a little different. He dreamed of changing the words to songs that already existed. His parents weren't supportive. When he was older he moved to the city. There he tries to fulfill his dream. Al's song "My Bologna" becomes a hit. He starts to meet the right people and put out more songs. Soon bands who's song he covers get a bump in record sales. Madonna is a new star. She wants Al to do one of her songs. So she pretends to like him and they have a relationship. He starts to go down a dark path. Al must find his way back to who he is. This movie was ok. It's like one long spoof video with a bunch of well known actors in it. It's entertaining but not that great.

The Good Nurse is based on a true story. Amy is an ICU nurse. She is struggling to work and support her family while also having a worsening heart condition. A new nurse starts working her shift. Charlie worked at many different hospitals before coming to hers. They become fast friends. After the sudden death of one of their patients, an investigation is started. The hospital is trying to cover it up, so the cops working the case have a hard time. Soon they suspect Charlie has something to do with it. Amy starts to suspect they're right and helps with the investigation. This movie was alright. It was slow. At the end we learn he admitted to 29 murders, but experts believe it could be over 400. Which is crazy.

Sunday: Enola Homes 2 (2022)

After the success of her first case Enola opens her own detective agency. After it fails she finally gets a case. A young girl named Bessie want help finding her sister, Sarah. Bessie and Sarah work at a matchstick factory. Sarah also works at a bar. Sarah has gone missing. Enola takes the case. She soon discovers Sarah is believed to have stolen some important documents from the factory and was using them for blackmail. Enola works to find Sarah and uncover the bigger plot. She gets help from her brother, Sherlock, who has his own puzzling case to solve. Much like the first movie this one was alright. Fun but not the best. I will say they introduced a classic Sherlock villain in an interesting way. Also the ending suggests there will be another movie. Also Sarah is based on a real woman who fought for women worker's rights.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

They start working hard to put together some routines. Only problem is they don't actually have a spot on the show yet. Lew hasn't even been able to talk to anyone from the show. I liked this movie.
