Crispy Egg Noodle and the New York Times Article

Sunday I went to Rukdiew Cafe. It is a Thai place on SE Belmont. There is good neighborhood parking. The outside is painted a light green with light pink doors. It is a small space. The inside is pretty cute. There are several different looks that tie into each other. One wall is covered in vines and leafs. A corner has pale wallpaper with swans. The wall near the front door is filled with framed art. The bar has pink feathered light fixtures hanging down. There are pink velvet plush bar stools. The overall theme is light pink and light green. It was fairly busy when I went. Usually when I go to a Thai place I get pad thai. This time I wanted to try something different. I got Mee Grob Rad Nah. It is crispy egg noodles in a gravy/soup sauce with Chinese broccoli and marinated meat. I got pork belly. It wasn't as hard to eat the crispy noodles as I thought. Overall it had good flavor. I didn't like the Chinese broccoli. It was more like eating spinach. The pork belly was really good. The check came in a painted soup can with a kitty sticker on it. The service was good for the most part. A little slow. I would go back.

Tuesday: Living in a Big Way (1947)

Before shipping off to war Leo has a whirlwind romance with Margo. Even though they had only known each other for 10 days they got married. Three years later when Leo returns from war he discovers Margo is a wealthy and famous model. No one knows she is married. Upon seeing Leo she lets him know she wants a divorce. Leo doesn't plan on giving up so quickly. They have to decide whether they want to stay together. I thought this movie was good. Gene Kelly is Leo. Not one of his best but still enjoyable.

Wednesday: Desert Hearts (1985)

Set in the 50s Vivian travels to Nevada to get a divorce. While she's waiting for it to go through she stays at a ranch. There she meets the daughter of the ranch owner, Cay. Cay is full of life. She is open about her being a lesbian. Vivian and Cay get close. Vivian discovers that she is attracted to women. They start a relationship with an uncertain future. I thought this movie was alright.

Friday: She Said (2022)

This is based on a true story. Two New York Times journalists, Megan and Jodi, learn about sexual harassment in Hollywood. Their focus in on Harvey Weinstein. There had been many reports of him sexually assaulting women who work for the studio he works at. Most of them are actresses. Nothing has been done. It's all swept under the rug. Megan and Jodi try to contact the women but no one will come forward to speak out. The more they learn the more they see how corrupt the whole system is. They have to get this article out there and hopefully stop this from happening again. This is a good movie. It's really well done. It also sad and maddening. I can't believe he got away with it for so long. And how many more men just like him are/were in the movie business. Taking advantage of these women.

Saturday: My Policeman (2022)

Well into their retirement Marion and Tom take in their old friend Patrick. Patrick had a stroke and needs someone to care for him. He has no one else. Tom is not happy about this. He doesn't want Patrick there. Him being there brings up memories from their youth. When they were young Tom and Patrick were in a relationship. Being the 50s they had to hide it. Getting caught could get them arrested. Tom wants to move up in the ranks as a policeman. To do that he has to be married. So he meets Marion and they hit it off. Marion doesn't see the signs. They end up getting married. After that it all falls apart. I thought this movie was alright.

Sunday: Disenchanted (2022)

Giselle is not happy in her happily ever after. She thinks moving to the suburbs will change everything. But it only creates more problems. She receives a wishing wand as a present for her baby. Giselle decides to use it to make her world like a fairytale. The wish does not go as planned when she starts to turn into a wicked stepmother and the magic starts to drain from Andalasia. She has to find a way to reverse the wish. This movie was alright. It's cute with lots of good Disney movie references.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...
