Colossal Cobb and the Underwater Mayans

Wednesday I had lunch at Garden Monsters. It is a food cart that is part of The Lot food cart pod, which is on SE Division. There is plenty of neighborhood parking. There are only 4 other food trucks in the pod. The pod is next to a pub. There are picnic tables to sit at. The Garden Monster truck is covered in wooden planks, making it look more like a shed than a truck. (Like a garden shed?) There are big signs with all the menu options. It's mostly salads but they do have some sandwiches. I got the colossal cob with chicken. As the name suggests it's big. I couldn't finish all of it. It was good. I liked that it came pre-mixed. It was a little spicy which was weird. Maybe it was the avocado ranch dressing. The service was good. I would go back.

Monday: Clash of the Titans (1981)

Perseus is the half human son of Zeus. Zeus favors him over his other children. This angers the sea goddess Thetis who seeks favor for her own son. To protect him, Perseus and his mother are sent away to an island to live their lives. He grows to be a strong young man. To put him in danger Thetis sends him to big city where he sees Andromeda. She was once engaged to Thetis's son, Calibos, who has been cursed to look like a monster after destroying a sacred site. It's love at first sight for Perseus. He's determined to marry Andromeda. Thetis doesn't make it easy for him. She curses the city and Andromeda. Perseus must face many obstacles to free her and save the city. I thought this movie was ok. The acting was not the best. There is some stop motion animation that unfortunately adds to the tackiness of the movie.

Tuesday: Shanghai Express (1932)

A white woman called Shanghai Lily is traveling by train through China, which is in the middle of a civil war. She is mysterious and known by many. On the train she is reunited with the man she loved, Donald. He knew her before she became notorious. They still care for each other but they are much different people now. As the train travels it is stopped to be searched for a rebel. He is found and taken by the opposite site. The man that was taken works for a general. The general is on the train. He holds the train hostage until his man is returned. I thought this movie was ok.

Wednesday: Lucky Partners (1940)

Jean has a lucky encounter with a painter named David. Deciding to double her luck she persuades him to enter a sweepstakes with her. If they win they will split the winnings. Jean will use the money for her wedding to her fiance, Freddie. They don't plan on taking a honeymoon. David wants to use his winnings to take her on a honeymoon with him. Scandalized Jean doesn't agree at first. Both Freddie and David persuade he it will be a harmless vacation. So she agrees. David and Jean get a long very well and enjoy their vacation. Although it results in more drama. I thought this movie was good. It is a screwball comedy so it can be a bit over the top, but still has its good moments.

Friday: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)

Wakanda is grieving over the loss of T'Challa, who died suddenly. Meanwhile vibranium is found outside of Wakanda by a government agency on the bottom of the ocean. They divers and crew are attacked. Wakanda is blamed, but it wasn't them. A man, Nomar, appears from out of the water in Wakanda having sneaked past their security. He speaks to Shuri and the queen. The vibranium under the ocean belongs to his people. They want the scientist who built the machine that detected it brought to them. If not they will attack Wakanda. Shuri must rescue the scientist, a college student, and protect her. With all that is happening Shuri must decide who she is and what side she's on. Not sure how else to summarize it. There's a lot going on. This is a really good movie. Spoiler alert. I liked Nomar a lot. I think an underwater Mayan society is so cool. Nice to see some Latino representation in the MCU. The movie was really well done. Also we were introduced to Riri, Ironheart, who is like the new Iron man. This movie was a good tribute to Chadwick Boseman (T'Challa) who died two years ago.

Saturday: Double Feature- The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) and Don't Worry Darling (2022)

The Banshees of Inisherin is about two friends living on an island off the coast of Ireland. One day Colm decides he doesn't want to be friends with Padraic any more. Padraic is stunned by this and doesn't know what to do. Colm makes it clear he doesn't want Padraic to even talk to him. When Padraic doesn't stop bothering Colm, Colm threatens to take drastic measures. This rift in their friendship has dire consequences. I thought this movie was alright. It was slow. There was some good comedy. It's just a bit weird. Colm is so extreme in his desire not to be friends anymore.

Don't Worry Darling is about a young couple living in an idyllic town called Victory. Alice is a 50s housewife who takes care of her house and husband. Jack works for the company the town is centered around. The work is top secret. After one of her friends has an outburst, Alice starts to question this community. Some things don't add up. What she discovers is truly shocking. This movie is alright. There is a good twist.

Nights of Cabiria is an Italian film. Cabiria is a prostitute. She is fairly well off compared to other but still wants more. Cabiria dreams of falling in love and being taken away from this life. Along the way she meets a famous movie star. Later she meets a man who treats her well and promises a better life. Her bad luck continues. This movie was good.

My Fake Boyfriend is about a stunt double named Andrew. Andrew is dating an actor named Nico who is constantly unfaithful. Every time they break up Andrew always goes back. Desperate to break Andrew of this cycle his best friend, Jake, invents a fake boyfriend for him online. Jake hope this will hold Nico off and allow Andrew to move on. It does at first, but then Andrew meets a handsome restaurant owner, Rafi. Andrew falls for Rafi. But the fake boyfriend becomes a major obstacle that ruins everything. I thought this movie was alright. It's fun and cute.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...
