Road Trip and the Djinn

 Sunday: Murder Most Foul (1964)

Miss Jane Marple is picked to be on the jury of a murder trial. A woman who was found out to be a blackmailer was strangled. A man is caught and accused of being the murderer. Miss Marple is the only member of the jury who doesn't think he is guilty. The trial is put off. Miss Marple takes it upon herself to solve the murder. She believes the murder is connected to a traveling theater troupe. She joins the troupe so she can investigate. Soon other members of the troupe start to be killed. Miss Marple must find the murderer. I thought this movie was good.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sunday: Nope (2022)

OJ works on a horse ranch with his father. They train horses for movies and TV shows. One day his father is killed under strange circumstances. Soon other strange things start happening. Horses get out of the barn and then disappear. OJ's sister, Emerald, comes to help after their father dies. OJ and Em both witness something they can't explain. They want to get it on film, so they set up cameras. The local amusement park down the valley also seems to be witnessing something. OJ and Em must save the ranch and film what is happening. This movie was alright. Definitely creepy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Monday: The Basketball Diaries (1995)

This is based on a true story. Set in the 60's, Jim is a teenage boy living in New York. He is a rising basketball star. He also likes to write poems. Jim and his friends like to get in trouble. They also like to take drugs. Soon they become too dependent on drugs. Jim becomes addicted to heroin. His addiction ruins his life. His mom kicks him out and he lives on the streets. It's not long before he hits rock bottom.  I thought this movie was ok.

Friday: Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022)

Alithea travels to Istanbul for work. She is a scholar who studies mythology and stories. At the bazaar she gets a glass bottle. Back in her room while cleaning it she releases a djinn. He offers her three wishes. Alithea is content with her life. She has nothing to wish for. Also she knows how wishes can go wrong. The Djinn tells her about his other masters and their wishes trying to convince her to make her wishes. This movie was good. I thought it was going to be really weird and have a lot of weird sex scenes. Don't get me wrong it it plenty weird, but not too bad. The sex scenes were actually relatively tame. Still weird but not over the top.

Saturday: Double Feature- Pinocchio (2022) and Don't Make Me Go (2022)

The new live action Pinocchio is pretty similar to the animated one from 1940. So I'm not going to summarize the plot. It was so-so. Some parts were good and others just fell flat. Like they were trying too hard. Geppetto has some great cuckoo clocks. Many of them have Disney characters in them. One has Woody from Toy Story coming out of a saloon (Tom Hanks, Geppetto, is also the voice of Woody). There is a Sleeping Beauty one where you see Maleficent and then up in the tower Aurora pricks her finger and then falls backward. There is a Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs one where at the end she falls and is put in a coffin. Clever idea. I'm not sure they have to remake every Disney animated film. So far Beauty and the Beast is the only good one.

Don't Make Me Go is about a single dad named Max who is raising his teenage daughter Wally. Max finds out he has a brain tumor that will kill him. He comes up with a plan. He convinces Wally to go on a road trip to Louisiana with him for his college reunion. This way he can spend quality time with Wally. Also he hopes to reconnect with Wally's estranged mother in hopes of getting help. They have adventures along the way. I thought this movie was good. Sad but good.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...
