Ballroom Dancers and the Edited Memories

It was a slow movie week.

Sunday: The Final Cut (2004)

This movie is set in a futuristic world where you can get an implant to record your memories. Alan is a cutter. After someone has died he edits their best memories into a short film for the funeral. Alan specializes is cases that no one else wants to do. Bad people who have done horrible things. He edits their memories to make them look good. His latest project is a corrupt politician. The further into the project he gets the more dangerous it becomes. I thought this movie was alright. I mostly watched it because Alan is played by Robin Williams.

Tuesday: Shadow of a Woman (1946)

Brooke had a hard time after both her parents died. She ended up in a mental institution. There she met Dr. Eric Ryder. After a week they got married. Brooke is happy and in love. When they get back to his house things start to change. Eric has a special way of treating his clients which mostly has to do with diet. Brooke starts to hear of his patients dying. She starts to get suspicious of  his practice. This movie was ok. Brooke is annoying. She keeps saying, "I didn't know that about you." Well of course you didn't you only knew him for a week before you married him. There's a lot you won't know.

Friday: Strictly Ballroom (1992)

Scott is a ballroom dancer. Ballroom dancing is what his family does. His parents are former dancers who now own a dance studio. They are training Scott and his siblings to compete. Scott is a great dancer. But he wants to do his own steps. He doesn't want to just to do what everyone else does. This causes a huge stir in the ballroom dancing community. It causes him to lose his partner. No one wants to work with him. Except Fran, the clumsy and shy young woman who comes to the studio. Scott is reluctant to work with her at first. But she pick up the steps quickly. They want to compete but there are a lot of obstacles in their way. I thought this movie was good. It is a little cheesy and camp, but in a good way. I really enjoyed it. It's Baz Luhrmann's (Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet) first film.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

Monday: Two Tickets to Broadway (1951)        Nancy is the star of her small town. She wants to be on Broadway. On her way to New York City she meets three woman who's agent is unreliable. Once in the city she meets another Broadway hopeful, Dan. None of them are having luck getting work. The women's and Dan's agent, Lew, comes up with an idea. He will get Dan and the four women onto Bob Crosby's TV show. And he will get their friends at the local deli to put up the money for it. The group is excited. They start working hard to put together some routines. Only problem is they don't actually have a spot on the show yet. Lew hasn't even been able to talk to anyone from the show. I liked this movie. It is fun. Tuesday: Paper Moon (1973)         Addie is a young girl who's mother passed away. At the funeral she meets a man, Moses, who reluctantly agrees to take her to her aunt's house in another state. She thinks he could be her father. But he won't a...
