Female Spies and the 60's Ghost

Happy 3 year anniversary of writing this blog!

Monday: Mona Lisa (1986)

This movie is set in London. After serving time in prison George is released. He immediately tries to get back into his gang and start working again. The only job they will give him is to drive around a call girl. Simone used to work the streets but then figured out how to work in hotels and have higher end clients. George drives her from client to client. They start off hating each other. Then slowly they become friends and George becomes very protective of her. Simone asks for his help to find a young girl she used to work with. This causes trouble for both of them. I thought this movie was alright. George is supposed to be this lovable brute. But he doesn't really grow that much and is still violent and cruel.

Tuesday: Mixtape (2021)

Beverly is a lonely middle schooler who is being raised by her grandmother. Her parents had her when they were teenagers and died when she was little. One day Beverly finds a mixed tape they made. She sees it as a message from her parents. When she accidentally destroys it she is determined to track down each of the songs. On her search she makes friends and learns more about her parents. This movie was ok. The acting isn't great. It was fun to see some 90s things. Although the mixed tape is from the 80s so it goes more into that.

Wednesday: Secrets & Lies (1996)

Hortense is a black woman living in London. She is a successful optometrist. After losing both her adoptive parents she decides to find her biological mother. Hortense is shocked to discover her mother is a white factory worker living in East London. After some time she decides to reach out to her mom. They have their struggles but form a relationship. This movie was alright.

Friday: The 355 (2022)

A technological weapon that could shut down whole countries is stolen from a gangster. CIA agent Mace is set to find it with her partner. But they lose it. Determined to find it Mace joins with two other renegade spies to track it down. They also work with a psychologist who works for another agency. They travel across the world tracking it down. They can't trust anyone. The stakes continues to rise. I thought this movie was alright. I liked that the cast was diverse.

Saturday: Last Night in Soho (2021)

Eloise is a young fashion student who has recently moved to London. To get away from a horrible roommate she moves into a room in an old ladies house. At night she starts to have vivid dreams about a singer from the 60s named Sandie. Sandie is determined to be a star. She meets a man named Jack who she hopes will help her. Jack is only interested in making her a prostitute to make him money. Eloise starts to realize that it's not all a dream. She is connected to it and starts seeing things when she is awake. Something horrible happened to Sandie and she has to figure it out. I thought this movie was alright. It does have a twist.

Sunday: Double Feature- La Strada (1954) and The Guilty (2021)

La Strada is an Italian film. It is about a young innocent woman named Gelsomina. After her older sister dies she takes her sister's place as the assistant to a traveling circus performer named Zampano. Zampano is a tough man. He is cruel and cares little for Gelsomina other than he needs her for his act. He wears a metal chain around his chest and brakes it using his muscles. They travel from town to town. At one point they join a circus. There Gelsomina meets a clown aerialist who is kind to her. Gelsomina struggles with her loyalty to Zampano and her desire to leave. This movie was alright.

The Guilty is about a demoted cop named Joe. He is awaiting trail for a shoot out gone wrong. Joe is working as a dispatcher. He gets a call from a woman named Emily who has been abducted. He does all he can to help her. Joe risks everything to find this woman. I thought this movie was alright. It was all filmed in the dispatch office. Mostly two rooms. Everything else is only what you can hear on the phone. Which is an interesting way to film.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

They start working hard to put together some routines. Only problem is they don't actually have a spot on the show yet. Lew hasn't even been able to talk to anyone from the show. I liked this movie. At the funeral she meets a man, Moses, who reluctantly agrees to take her to her aunt's house in another state. She thinks he could be her father. But he won't a...
