Fitzwilly and the City Cowboy

 Monday: Fitzwilly (1967)

Claude is the butler for elderly woman who is a philanthropist. She is caring and giving to all people. The only problem is that her wealthy relatives left no money for her to live on. Claude didn't have the heart to tell her. So he lets her think she is wealthy. To pay for her philanthropy Claude and the other members of the household steal goods and sell them. They have a system down. Then their boss hires a secretary named Juliet. Juliet starts to figure out that they are committing crimes. Claude tries to convince her nothing is wrong. Despite themselves they fall for each other. I liked this movie.

Tuesday: Susan Slept Here (1954)

Mark is an Oscar winning screenwriter who is struggling with his next movie. On Christmas Eve a cop friend brings a delinquent teenager named Susan to his apartment. The cop knew Mark was writing a movie about a troubled teen. He wants Susan to stay with Mark for the night. That way Mark has someone to draw inspiration from and Susan doesn't spend Christmas in jail. Mark is no longer writing that movie but agrees to take Susan in. Susan is trouble but gets along with Mark. Mark decides she can't go back to jail. The only way he can think to stop it is to marry her. Then he will divorce her when it's clear she won't go to jail. Susan misunderstands the situation. Although she is reluctant at first to marry him, she soon falls in love with him. She wants to stay married. They have to figure out what to do. I thought this movie was alright. It's kinda gross for a 35 year old man to marry a 17 year old.

Friday: Concrete Cowboy (2020)

Cole is a young black teenager. He lives with his mom is Detroit. He is constantly getting in trouble. His mom has had enough and takes him to Philadelphia to live with his dad for the summer. It has been a long time since Cole has seen his dad or been back to his old neighborhood. His dad, Harp, is part of a black cowboy community. They have stables next to a building that they keep their horses in. Harp actually has a horse he keeps in his house. Cole wants nothing to do with it. He reconnects with a childhood friend, Smush. Smush is trying to buy a ranch. To make money he is moving in on a gang leader's territory to sell drugs. Cole agrees to help. When Harp finds out he tells Cole that he can't live with him if he goes around with Smush. That night Cole ends up with no place to sleep so he sneaks into the barn and into stall with a horse named Boo. When he is found in the morning he is told that Boo is wild and doesn't like anyone. So clearly Cole and Boo have a connection. Cole starts working in the stables. He pretends not to be friends with Smush anymore so he can live at his dad's. Cole starts to like this cowboy way of life and makes friends. Smush's operation gets more risky. The city is trying to shut down the stables. This is a good movie. It is based on a real community. Some of the characters were played by real people who live that way. They are struggling to hold onto their way of life. The city continues to try to take their horses.

Saturday: I Am Woman (2019)

Helen moves to NYC from Australia with her daughter in the mid 60s. She is a great singer and is supposed to have a record deal. But when she gets there the label backs out on the deal. Helen has to work as a night club singer to make money. She becomes friends with an another Australian named Lilian. Lilian is a journalist with dreams of writing a rock and roll encyclopedia. This was also at the beginning of the women's liberation movement. Both Helen and Lilian feel very strongly about it. At a party Helen meets Jeff. Jeff works at a label. They start to date. Jeff has an idea that he will be Helen's manager. They will move to LA and she will become famous. So they do and get married. Jeff manages other bands for a while. Then Helen forces him to get her a meeting with Capitol records. She gets a deal. Later she writes "I Am Woman". Which becomes a huge hit and the anthem for the women's movement. Helen becomes very famous. Her marriage is struggling and Jeff has a serious drug problem. But they continue to make music. This movie was alright. It is based on a true story. The husband is a jerk. I don't know how she stayed with him that long.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...
