Fred and the Puppeteer's Crush

I will go to a restaurant on my list soon. It's just been hard with my schedule.

Monday: Detour (1945)

A New York City nightclub pianist named Al is love with the club's singer, Sue. Although she loves Al she wants more in life than working in a run down club. So she sets of for Hollywood to try her hand at acting. Al is sad and misses Sue terribly. He decides to go to Hollywood to be with her. Al has little money so he hitchhikes across the country. One of the people who picks him up is a man named Charles who is going to LA. Charles tells him about escaping from a crazy ex who is after his money. One night when Al is driving Charles dies, but the way it happened makes it look like Al did it. He is too scared to tell the police what happened. So he pretends to be Charles until he gets to LA. On his way he picks up a hitchhiker who turns out to be Charles' crazy ex. She blackmails Al. This is a good movie. Classic film noir.

Tuesday: Lili (1953)

Lili is a young woman who has recently become a orphan. She travels to a village to find a man her father said would giver her a job. The man is gone. The shopkeeper next door takes pity on Lili and promises her a job. But he tries to take advantage of her. A magician, Marc, saves her. She follows him and other circus members back to the circus they travel with. Lili has a crush on him and just wants to be near him. He doesn't like her the same way. But he feels bad and gets her a job as a waitress.  She spends more time watching his act then working so she is fired. As she goes to leave the anti-social puppeteer, Paul, uses his puppets to talk to her. Lili talks with the puppets and starts to feel better. They draw an audience. Paul and his assistant realize this would be a great act. So Paul hires Lili to be in the show. He always seems to be mad at her and can only really talk to her through his puppets. It's clear he likes her. She only has eyes for Marc and Paul fears she will never get over Marc. This is a really good movie.

Wednesday: The Catered Affair (1956)

Jane comes from a poor family. Her father drives taxis. She gets engaged to a man named Ralph who comes from a rich family. They decide they want a small wedding. They want to do it soon while they have the use of a car and can use it to go on their honeymoon. Jane's parents agree to a small wedding. Especially her father who has been saving to buy his own taxi and finally has enough. But after a dinner with Ralph's parents Jane's mom, Aggie, feels the need for a bigger wedding. She knows if Jane were Ralph's parents daughter they would be able to give her a big wedding. Aggie wants to give Jane something before she leaves. So she convinces Jane to have a big wedding even though it's not what she wants. It causes even more problems and would almost bankrupt them. This movie was alright.

Friday: Nobody (2021)

Hutch used to be a very dangerous man who took down gangs. Then he gave it all up for a normal life with a wife and kids. After his house gets broken into everything changes. His old ways come back. Hutch tries to track down the people who broke in, but decides not to do anything. Desperate for a fight he takes on a group of men on a bus. He fatally injures one of them, who turns out to be related to a Russian gangster. Now the gangster is after Hutch. This movie was ok. Entertaining. Christopher Lloyd plays Hutch's dad. He is the best part of the whole movie. He is great in this.

Saturday: Judas and the Black Messiah (2021)

This is based on a true story. A black man named Bill living in Chicago pretends to be an FBI agent to steal cars. He gets caught and turned into the real FBI. The agent who interrogates  him gives him an option to get out of jail time. Bill would go undercover as a Black Panther and spy on them. Bill agrees and tries to get close to the Party Chairman Fred Hampton. Fred is trying to take on the police and fight for better treatment. He also starts a breakfast program for low income kids and works on starting a free health clinic. Bill feels guilty for what he is doing but the threat of his identity be discovered by the Black Panther party and jail time keeps him doing it. Fred unites all the parties and gangs to take on the police in Chicago. He makes progress but the FBI are determined to take him down, no matter how illegal their methods are. This a a really good movie. There is some great acting. I always thought of the Black Panther's as a dangerous civil rights group, which they were compared to other groups. But they also did a lot for their community. Fred even gets an all white patriot group to join him, as well as Puerto Ricans. They all had been targeted by the police. The FBI was horrible. What they did to bring him and the Black Panthers down was illegal and cruel.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

Monday: Two Tickets to Broadway (1951)        Nancy is the star of her small town. She wants to be on Broadway. On her way to New York City she meets three woman who's agent is unreliable. He will get Dan and the four women onto Bob Crosby's TV show. And he will get their friends at the local deli to put up the money for it. The group is excited. They start working hard to put together some routines. Only problem is they don't actually have a spot on the show yet. Lew hasn't even been able to talk to anyone from the show. I liked this movie. It is fun. Tuesday: Paper Moon (1973)         Addie is a young girl who's mother passed away. At the funeral she meets a man, Moses, who reluctantly agrees to take her to her aunt's house in another state. She thinks he could be her father. But he won't a...
