Diana Prince and the Band Teacher

 Tuesday: Enter Laughing (1967)

David is an aspiring actor. He works at a machinist shop. His parents don't approve of his career choice and want him to become a pharmacist. One day he lucks out at an audition and gets the part in a play. The theater is run down and is barely making any money. David has to pay them to be in the play. He is a horrible actor. The director soon loses patience with him. But with no other options he keeps him in the play. David is determined to be in the play, no matter what anyone else wants from him. I thought this movie was ok. The mom was really annoying.

Friday: Double Feature- Soul (2020) and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

Soul is the latest film by Pixar. Joe wants to be a famous jazz piano player. He has struggled his whole life to make his dream come true. To make ends meet he works as a middle-school band teacher. On the day he gets a promotion he also has an audition to play in a jazz band. He gets hired to work in the band. Then he falls down a manhole and wakes up as a soul. He is on his way to the beyond. Joe runs away from the light and ends up where the new souls are. New souls have to find their spark before they can go to earth. Desperate to go back to earth Joe agrees to mentor soul 22. When 22 finds their spark he will steal their patch to get home. While trying to help he discovers things about life that he hadn't  paid attention to before. I thought this movie was good.

Wonder Woman 1984 finds Wonder Woman, Diana, 40 years after we last saw her. She is living in D.C. and working at a museum. She becomes friends with a new researcher, Barbara. Barbara is tasked with identifying some objects for the FBI. One of them is a crystal that is supposed to grant your wish. Diana and Barbara don't believe it, but they both make wishes. They come true. Steve, Diana's love, comes back. Barbara becomes more like Diana, gaining strength and confidence. An oil tycoon wants the crystal. He wants it to make his oil fields successful. But he wants more and more power. Diana soon realizes that something gets taken from you when your wish is granted. She has to destroy the crystal and bring down the tycoon. This is a good movie. Some of the humor can be a little campy. And Cheetah as a villain is a little hard to translate to live action.

Saturday: Ammonite (2020)

This movie takes place in England in the 1840s. Mary was once a respected fossil hunter. But now she has fallen out of grace. She lives in a small costal town with her mom. They run a gift shop for tourists. A young couple come to visit the shop. They are in town so the wife can recover from a dramatic event. The husband wants to go with Mary to find fossils. She only agrees when he says he will pay her. Later he is called away on an expedition. He wants his wife to stay there. He convinces Mary to let his wife, Charlotte, work with her and learn. Needing the money Mary agrees. On the second day together Charlotte becomes very sick. With no one else to look after her Mary has Charlotte stay at her house and nurses her. Soon they become friends and then more than friends. They change each other forever. I thought this movie was alright. It was slow. There isn't a lot of dialogue.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...
