Mr. Dadier and the Gangster's Singer

Monday: Bright Road (1953)
Jane is a young teacher at her first school. She is nervous but determined to be a good teacher. Jane becomes concerned by a boy in her class named C.T. He has no interest in school. He is always late and never pays attention. She looks into his file and sees that he has been held back several times and comes from a poor family. Jane wants to help him and to get him interested in school. As she observes him she sees that he is a kind boy. C.T. cares for animals and works hard to help his family. She knows he could be a good student, he just needs to find something to hold his attention. I thought this movie was alright.

Tuesday: Blackboard Jungle (1955)
Richard Dadier is the new English teacher at a inner-city school. The students are rebellious and chaotic. They have no interest in school. Most of the other teachers have given up. They don't even try. Richard is determined to help his students. He wants to get them interested in school. They resist. Several incidents result in Richard getting hurt. He tries his best to not let it get to him. Even though it would be easier to quit and go to a better school, Richard decides to stick with this school. This is a good movie. It was well done. I found it interesting that the school wasn't designated as a juvenile correction school. But it was all boys and they were all trouble makers. Some of them were very dangerous.

Wednesday: Love Me or Leave Me (1955)
A gangster named Marty discovers a woman named Ruth at a dance hall. He wants to date her. She is not interested. He offers to help her become a singer. She agrees. Ruth knows he is dangerous and has feelings for her. She thinks she needs him to become a famous singer. At her first job she meets a piano player named Johnny. He sees her talent and knows she can make it without Marty. She is convinced she needs Marty. Even though she likes Johnny she goes off with Marty. Ruth rises to fame as a singer. She ends up marrying Marty even though she doesn't love him. Ruth feels like she owes him and doesn't know what to do. I liked this movie a lot.

Friday: Love. Wedding. Repeat. (2020)
Jack is at his sister's wedding in Rome. Her American friend, Dina, is there. Jack had lost his chance with her the last time they were together. He hopes to get a second chance with her at the wedding. But his plans are thrown off when his sister's childhood friend, Marc arrives. He is in love with Jack's sister. He is also high. Marc wants her to be with him and will do anything to get her. Hayley, Jack's sister, doesn't want Marc to ruin her wedding. She comes up with a plan to have Jack put a sedative in Marc's drink at the table. But the name cards get switched around and Marc doesn't get the sedative. He ruins the wedding. Then we are shown different versions of how the wedding could have gone when the people at the table are seated in different places. This movie is ok. I didn't like a lot of the humor. There were a lot of awkward moments.

Saturday: Jacob's Ladder (1990)
A Vietnam vet named Jacob suffers once back home. He has flashback to the war. He also starts to see things that don't make sense. A homeless person with a tail, demon's faces on the subway, a horse's skull in a fridge and more. Jacob is frightened. No one seems to understand or want to help. He starts to think something was done to him in the war. Jacob finds out what happened. It was horrible. I thought this movie was ok. There is a twist at the end. But it's not that surprising.

Sunday: Trolls World Tour (2020)
Poppy finds out that there are different lands. Each one has a different type of music. There is country, funk, rock, classical, and Techno. Each of these lands has a string. The queen of the rock land wants all the strings. Then she can make it so rock in the only type of music. Poppy wants to stop her. She wants to unite all the lands too but for a different reason. But Poppy has a lot to learn about what happened and what needs to be done. I enjoyed this movie. It is pretty kiddy but still fun. I think the animation is interesting. Everything is made out of fabric. Most of the trolls seem fuzzy and made out of wool. The canyons in the country land are stacked quilts. Even the water has a thin layer of fabric on it. It's a cool idea to animate it that way.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...
