Giant Kale Salad and the Search for Little Rock

On Saturday I had lunch at Lardo. I went to the SW Washington location. The decor is a more modern sandwich shop with some neon signs. It is simple with red walls. There is a small bar, counter seating, and some small tables. There are big chalkboards with the menu on them. It is very loud in there. You order at the counter and then are given a wooden spoon in a stand with your order number on it. I got a side kale caesar salad. It was huge. I think it's meant to be for two people. I barely had room left for my sandwich. The sandwiches are all unique. I got the Peter Pablo. Which includes smoked pork shoulder, ham, pepper jack cheese, mustard sauce, pickles, and mayo. It was good but the mustard was spicy. I ended up just picking out the meat on the second half because it was spicy and I was getting full. The service was good. I would go back but I would get something different.

Monday: Klute (1971)
Klute is a small town detective. A friend of his goes missing. The one clue he has to go on is a connection to a prostitute in New York City. Bree is trying to be an actress and get out of the prostitute business. She reluctantly agrees to help Klute with his investigation. She has to meet with her old connections and is brought back into the prostitute life. It sends her on a downward spiral. Klute is having little luck with his investigation. I thought this movie was ok. The description sounded more exciting than the movie actually was.

Tuesday: Fanny and Alexander (1982)
This is a Swedish movie that takes place in the early 1900s in Sweden. Fanny and Alexander are children in a wealthy family. Their parents own and act at a local theater. They live a happy life surrounded by family and servants. Then their father dies. Their mother soon remarries. Her new husband is a priest. He is very controlling and strict. Fanny and Alexander no longer live a happy life. The family tries to get them out. This is a long movie. I liked it, although it was a little weird.

Wednesday: The Glass Slipper (1955)
As you can probably guess this movie is about Cinderella. It follows the basic story with some differences. At least from the kiddie versions I've seen. The fairy godmother doesn't ever reveal her self as a fairy. She pretends to be a crazy pick pocket. We don't see any indications of magic, except one shot of a pumpkin and mice. She steals the dress. The carriage has will pick Cinderella up at 12 so it can be back to the castle to pick up it's real passengers at 1. Cinderella meets the prince before the ball. He pretends to be the palace cook's assistant. Cinderella in this version is a stupid rebellious child. She knows she is destined to live in the palace but when she imagines herself in the castle she is just sitting on a thrown. She doesn't know what she would do in the palace, just sit. There are a lot of other stupid moments. Cinderella throws fits when people don't pay attention to her, then she goes and pouts. It's an interesting take on the classic tale.

Friday: The Gentlemen (2020)
Mickey Pearson is an American gangster living in England. He has a massive marijuana business. He wants to sell it so he can retire. Soon he finds a buyer. Everything seems to be going fine, but then others start to come after his business. One favor for a friend further pushes Mickey and his associates into chaos. I didn't like this movie as much as I though I would. Guy Ritchie (the director) movies are a hit or miss. This was a miss. I didn't like all the dirty humor. The only thing I did like was seeing was Henry Golding in the movie. Although I did not like his character.

Saturday: Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)
Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita, and Little Rock are living together in the White House. It's a good life for a while. But Little Rock wants to be around people her own age. Wichita feels trapped. So they take off. Columbus rebounds with a ditzy woman he meets in the mall named Madison. Soon after Wichita returns. Little Rock met a guy her age and went off with him. Wichita is going to find her before something bad happens. Tallahassee and Columbus go with her. As they look for Little Rock they encounter a new type of zombie that is smart, fast, and hard to kill. The group now has even more incentive to find Little Rock and protect her. I thought this movie was entertaining. Not the best but still fun. I liked it better than The Gentlemen.

Sunday: Us (2019)
A family is on vacation at the beach. One night they are attacked by a family that looks just like them. They have to fight for their lives. I don't want to say too much more and give anything away. This is a good movie. It is a little weird. I was avoiding this movie because I thought it would be scary. But it wasn't that scary. That or maybe I just have a higher tolerance for horror films than I thought.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

He will get Dan and the four women onto Bob Crosby's TV show. And he will get their friends at the local deli to put up the money for it. The group is excited. They start working hard to put together some routines. Only problem is they don't actually have a spot on the show yet. Lew hasn't even been able to talk to anyone from the show. I liked this movie.
