Shawarma and the Struggles of Divorce

My next restaurant was a Lebanese place called TarBoush. It is on SE Hawthorne. I have passed it so many time and have wanted to go in but never have. It is in a Victorian house, which of course was one of the major draws. The house is kept in better shape than some of the others I've been to. It is a pretty decent size. I sat in the room with a big window looking out onto the street. The decorations are pretty minimal. Some Lebanese items here and there. The music was Lebanese. There are some old photos on the walls. The house was built in 1852. Before your meal they bring out warm pita bread. There is olive oil to dip it in. There was also some spices you can dip it in. I'm not exactly sure what it was. It tasted like tea. I got the Chicken Shawarma plate. It comes with Basmati rice and veggies. There was a white sauce, which I've guessing is a yogurt sauce, for the chicken. Also there is a red sauce for the rice. It was so good. It was perfect on a cold day. Warm food in a cozy Victorian front room. It's hard to beat that. The service was good. Parking it fine, you just park in the neighborhood off of Hawthorne. I would go back for sure. I would go back tomorrow.

Monday: Time Out for Rhythm (1941)
Danny and Mark are talent agents. They also help produce shows. They are fairly successful. Danny and Mark agree on almost everything. The exception is an actress named Frances. Mike thinks she is very talented. He wants her to headline their new show. Mike is also in love with her. Danny is not convinced. He also thinks that she will choose her career over Mike, which could cause problems. Danny reluctantly agrees to audition her for the show. While waiting for her at her apartment he discovers that her maid, Kitty, is a very talented singer and dancer. Frances shows up late and drunk. Danny decides to put Kitty in the show instead. Danny and Mike fight over this and split up. They are only successful together and their crew tries to get them back together. I thought this movie was ok.

Tuesday: Jason and the Agronauts (1963)
A king has taken over another kingdom. He thinks he is safe. Then he hears a prophecy that the son of the former king will come back and take the kingdom back. He searches for the boy for 20 years. Then he meets Jason, the son, by accident. He sends Jason on a quest to get the golden fleece which is at the end of the world, hoping he will die along the way. Jason gets help from the goddess Hera. He gathers a group of the strongest men he can find to help him. Jason faces many obstacles. His ship is stranded at sea, they are attacked by mythical creatures and living statues. He doesn't let anything stop him on his quest for the fleece. I liked this movie. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad. The creatures were made by stop motion animation. It is interesting to see it used like that in an old film. There was a lot of experiments with the visual effects, most of them successful.

Wednesday: The Great Race (1965)
The Great Leslie is a daredevil known for his death defying acts. His rival Professor Fate is constantly trying to sabotage his stunts. Professor Fate always ends up crashing himself leaving Leslie to perform his stunt perfectly. Leslie comes up with the idea to do a car race from New York to Paris. This will involve driving over the North Pole. Maggie is a wanna be reporter at the forefront of the woman's movement. She convinces a newspaper to hire her. She promises to cover the race by riding with a driver. Leslie and Professor Fate both reject her so she enters the race herself. Professor Fate cheats by sabotaging many of the other cars. It ends up just being him and Leslie. After her car breaks down Maggie spends the rest of the race switching between the two cars. This movie is alright. It is very camp. There is a lot of slapstick comedy. It's fun.

Friday: Knives Out (2019)
The Thrombey family is gathered to celebrate the birthday of it's patriarch, Harlan. After the party Harlan commits suicide. But there is an investigation into his death. A private detective is hired. He believes one of the people at the party killed him. Everyone has a motive. The detective tries to find out what really happened. I don't want to say much more. I don't want to give anything away. One of the characters throws up when they lie. This is used for comic affect. It ruined the movie for me. I would have liked it more it there wasn't someone throwing up several times. It's just gross.

Saturday: Marriage Story (2019)
This is about a married couple named Charlie and Nicole who are getting a divorce. Charlie is a play director. Nicole is an actress who works in his company. She is tired of not having her own life. Nicole leaves and moves back to Los Angeles. Their son goes with her. Charlie doesn't understand what happened. He is convinced she will come back. They try to handle the divorce themselves but are unsuccessful. So they hire lawyers and things get ugly. Things get out of hand and not the way they wanted it. I have mixed feelings about this movie. It's good. The acting is amazing. I see why it is getting oscar buzz. But I don't know something is off. Maybe because the story is relatively simple. It's just about a couple getting a divorce. I don't know. It does feels like a real story with real awkward moments. Like they are at a meeting with their lawyers, it's ugly. Then as they break for lunch the lawyers start chatting about the place their ordering from. Like they weren't just at each others throats minutes before. I didn't like the end credits. It was the kind where the credits start rolling but the movie is still playing. It was just them getting in their car and driving away. It's pointless to show that. It's better when it just goes to black and then the credits roll.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

He will get Dan and the four women onto Bob Crosby's TV show. And he will get their friends at the local deli to put up the money for it. The group is excited. They start working hard to put together some routines. Only problem is they don't actually have a spot on the show yet. Lew hasn't even been able to talk to anyone from the show. I liked this movie. It is fun. Tuesday: Paper Moon (1973)         Addie is a young girl who's mother passed away.
