NY Pizza and the New Toy in Denial

Friday my sister and I went to Escape From New York Pizza. It is on NW 23rd. It is a small place. It has a very low key casual feel. There are New York City decorations. Lots of Statues of Liberties. The name is a reference to a movie called Escape From New York. I have not seen the movie but I couldn't see anything related to any movie besides the statues. There was also a lot of stickers. You get a choice of 4 or 5 pizzas. It is mostly by the slice. They are New York style so they are big. The service was ok. Maybe they take the New York part seriously and act like the unfriendly servers in NYC. Or maybe it's just part of working at a pizza place. The pizza was good but not amazing. I would go back though.

Monday: Hud (1963)
This is a slightly more modern western set in the 60s. Hud lives on a ranch with his father, his nephew and their housekeeper. Hud is a womanizing alcoholic. He was driven to this after his brother died in a car accident that was the result of his drunk driving. Although he knows he is bad Lonnie still looks up to his uncle. The ranch suffers when some of the new cattle catch a disease. They have to decide whether or not to put down all of their cattle. This would mean the loss of their ranch but if they don't it could infect all the animals in the town and beyond. This was a good movie. Paul Newman was good as Hud.

Tuesday: The Glass Bottomed Boat (1966)
This is a kooky romantic comedy about a NASA secretary. Jennifer helps her father on the weekends pretending to be a mermaid for his boat tours. One day a fisherman accidentally catches her tail. This meet cute is frustrating for both of them. The next week at work at NASA Jennifer discovers that the fisherman is actually head scientist Bruce. Bruce takes a liking to her so he has her follow him around and write his biography as a ploy to get closer to her. They fall for each other. His project is top secret. The FBI discover that there is a spy. They think it is Jennifer. This is a fun movie. A little cartoonish but still good.

Friday: Toy Story 4 (2019)
Woody and his friends are getting used to living with Bonnie. Bonnie is going to kindergarten. She is scared. She makes a toy out of a spork named Forky. He becomes very important to her. Woody has to protect Forky from himself and help him to be accepted by the other toys. Bonnie and her family go on a road trip. Forky jumps out the window and Woody follows. They end up at an antique shop and find Bo Peep. They meets some other inhabitants of the shop. Woody tries to get back to his friends. But seeing Bo Peep makes him question things. This is a really good movie. The animation has changed so much from the first Toy Story. Like the 3rd one it does have some sad moments. Also it hits close to home. In the 3rd one Andy was going off to college and giving up part of his childhood. I was back from my first year of college and feeling the same way. This one is about giving up was is comfortable and safe for something that could be better. I get that.

Saturday: Sisters Brothers (2018)
This is based on a true story. It it set in Oregon during the times of the wild west. The Sisters brothers are assassins. Their new job is to hunt down a man, Hermann, who has a formula for easily finding gold. A head man was sent ahead to find Hermann and capture him so when the brothers arrive they can torture Hermann for the formula. But alliances change. The brother's journey does not go as they expected it to. I liked this movie ok.

Sunday: Charlie Says (2018)
It is based on the true events surrounding Charles Manson. It is told from the perspective of the main three women involved in the crimes. We see newcomer Leslie meet Charlie and become part of the cult, or as they call it family. There was a lot of drugs and sex. Charlie had rules about how things should be. The men ate first, no one had any money or identification. There were no clocks because they live in the "now". They went dumpster diving for food. Charlie wanted to be a famous musician and was even friends with a Beach Boy. He had crazy ideas about hiding during the race wars and then coming back as elfin angels to rule over the US. They start killing people and making it look like black people did it, to further along the war. They get caught and are sent to prison. Most of the movie is the three women telling all of this to a teacher that is trying to help them. I mostly watched this movie because Matt Smith is playing Charlie in it. I thought it was interesting. It was fine.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

He will get Dan and the four women onto Bob Crosby's TV show. And he will get their friends at the local deli to put up the money for it. The group is excited. They start working hard to put together some routines. Only problem is they don't actually have a spot on the show yet. Lew hasn't even been able to talk to anyone from the show. I liked this movie. It is fun. Tuesday: Paper Moon (1973)         Addie is a young girl who's mother passed away.
