Portland Goats and the Unlikely Friendship

On our way to the restaurant we walked by a house with goats. There were three of them. There was even a food dispenser where you could get food to feed the goats. They were sweet goats. But goat eyes always freak me out a little. It's weird that the pupils are little horizontal rectangles. It was a nice surprise to find them by a house in north Portland. This week's restaurant was EaT: An Oyster Bar. We were the only people in there again. I don't know why I keep picking places that are empty. To be fair it was Monday at lunch time. I'm guessing it's a more popular weekend dinner place. You do get a strong New Orleans feel from it. There are animal head busts on the walls. Mardi Gras beads are all over the place. The walls have been signed by patrons from over the years. I got the Debris Po'Boy sandwich. It had beef in au-jus sauce. Fries were included and they were good. The sandwich was good too. It was very messy, most of it ended up on the plate. It was spicy but not so spicy that I couldn't finish it. The service was really good. I would go back.

Sunday: Brexit (2019)
I mostly watched this movie just because Benedict Cumberbatch was in it. As can be seen from the title of the movie it is about the whole Brexit situation in the UK. It shows how each side of the issue was campaigned. Benedict Cumberbatch was Dominic Cummings who was responsible for getting so many votes for the decision to leave the European Union. He used a new kind of technology to get new voters to vote. I still don't completely understand what was happening. The movie was ok. Benedict Cumberbatch was good as always.

Monday: Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948)
Cary Grant stars in this comedy as a man who is tired of living in his small city apartment in New York City with his family. He decides to buy a house in the country in Connecticut. From the very beginning there are problems. The house has to be torn down and rebuilt. Every step of the way something goes wrong. Nothing in the building process goes as it should and the expenses keep on growing. Most of the misfortunes are done in a comedic way. The movie was ok. The wife was very annoying, questioning everything the husband did, even when some of it was her fault. The whole movie was a little annoying. They just never got it together. They made mistake after mistake and never learned from it.

Tuesday: Meet the People (1944)
Lucille Ball plays an actress who comes down to a shipyard for a war bond auction. Whoever buys the most war bonds gets a date with her. She ends up going on a date with William Swanson (played by Dick Powell) who just happens to be a playwright. He shows her a musical he wrote with his brother. It is about all the people he knows in and around the shipyard. She loves it and gets it put on Broadway. He comes to see it during previews and sees that it is nothing like how he wrote it. William says she would have to actually work there to see what it is really like. She takes him up on his offer and works as a welder. By spending time with the people she gets a better understanding of what it is like. Complications arise but a romance blooms and in the end everything works out. I like this movie a lot. It is interesting to see Lucille Ball play a more glamorous role. It was a role you could see Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn playing. Lucille Ball is associated mainly with comedy. I thought she did a good job in the role. In some of these older films during action sequences it is still shot like how they shot them in silent films. It seems to go a little faster then it should. I think it has to do with a smaller film frame size. Also I like in older movies when there is the little cigarette burn in the corner that appears to signal when it is time to change the reel.

Wednesday: The Hate U Give (2018)
This movie is about a black high school girl named Starr. She has two separate lives. One at home in her mostly black neighborhood and the other at her private high school in a wealthy and mostly white neighborhood. The two worlds collide when she sees her friend wrongfully shot by a cop and is called to be the witness at the trail. If her identity is revealed it will cause problems in both worlds. Her classmates would look at her differently. At home the local gang would come after her to keep quiet because her friend who was killed worked for them. Although he only did that to raise money for his grandma's hospital expenses. She has to decide whether she wants to stand up for the wrong that was done to her friend. This movie deals with racism in modern day life. It shows a situation that happens more often than it should. Too many black people are shot by police for not doing anything wrong. I think it's good for teenagers to see this movie to understand what is happening. It is a good movie.

Friday: The Upside (2019)
This is a remake of the french film The Intouchables. Kevin Hart is a ex-criminal who is looking for a job. He mistakenly gets interviewed by someone looking for a carer for a man who is paralyzed from the neck down. Bryan Cranston plays, Phillip, the wealthy paralyzed man. Phillip decides to hire Dell (Kevin) against his work partner's (Nicole Kidman) wishes. Dell and Phillip struggle in the beginning. But they both change each other for the better and become good friends. This is such a good movie. It is funny.

Saturday: Ocean's Eight (2018)
My second viewing of this movie was just enjoyable as the first. I liked that it was a female remake/spin off of the Ocean's Eleven movies. It is a great cast. Sandra Bullock plays Debbie Ocean who is the sister of Danny Ocean. When she is released from prison she starts putting her jewelry heist plan into action. She assembles a group of female criminals to steal jewels from the MET gala. This is a really fun movie. All the actors do a really good job. I also like how diverse it is.

Surprise Chorizo and the Floating Castle

Well after two months I was finally able to go to a restaurant on my list. I went to Tight Tacos, the SE Division location. There is neighborhood parking on the streets behind it, but you might have to drive around a little. It is a small restaurant next to other restaurants and shops. They were only open for take out but there were picnic tables you could sit at on the sidewalk. The tables were in the shade so it was nice on a warm day. From what I could see inside it was clean and modern. There is some color and hanging Christmas lights. The service was good. I got three tacos: chicken, carnitas, and asada. I think that I got chorizo instead of asada. It was actually the best one flavor wise. The carnitas meat was good but there wasn't a lot of flavor. I forgot to ask for no onions so I had to scrape them off. The tacos were good. I would go back. The one problem I had was they serve the food in takeout containers. And they have tables for you to sit ...

He will get Dan and the four women onto Bob Crosby's TV show. And he will get their friends at the local deli to put up the money for it. The group is excited. They start working hard to put together some routines. Only problem is they don't actually have a spot on the show yet. Lew hasn't even been able to talk to anyone from the show. I liked this movie. It is fun. Tuesday: Paper Moon (1973)         Addie is a young girl who's mother passed away.
