Billie and the Struggling Farm

Monday: Strange Lady in Town (1955)         In 1880 a doctor named Julia moves to Santa Fe to live with her brother and set up a practice. Her brother is in the army and is away often but she has the use of his house. At first the people of the town are unsure of a female doctor. Especially the other doctor in town who doesn't want her there. Soon it becomes clear that she is a great doctor and people start coming to her instead. Near her house is a church. The priest of the church has started his own hospital. He wants Julia's help to get it up and running. Julia does her best to succeed in Santa Fe but the other doctor and her soldier turned criminal brother make it hard. I thought this movie was ok. The acting style made it feel more like a drama and less like a western. Tuesday: Lost in America (1985)          David and his wife Linda are ready for bigger and better things. They bought a new house believing that David was about to g...

Once at the base they find the other nurses exhausted. Davy and the other nurses jump in to help. They continue to get more injured. Supplies run low. Then they are attacked and have to move to another base and another. The women fight to take care of the injured and survive. I thought this movie was alright. American Pilot and the Pulitzer Prize Winner

Monday: The Prize (1963)              Andrew is in Sweden to receive a Pulitzer for literature. He could care less about winning. The only reason he came was because that was the only way to get the money that comes with the prize. When he arrives he meets another prize winner a German named Dr. Stratman and his niece Emily. Later Emily sees Andrew at a club. He has had far too much to drink. She tricks him into coming back to the hotel and sending him to bed alone. The next day during press interviews Andrew notices something different about Dr. Stratman. But he thinks nothing of it. During his interview he talks about how he is a failure as a writer. To make money he has been writing mystery novels under a fake name. He claims to be able to come up with a plot on the spot. He describes a story about Dr. Stratman. The real Dr. Stratman was taken away by spies and replaced with a look alike to further the work of Germany. Little does Andrew know,...

Frozen Butterbeer and the Action Hero Asian Princess

My friend who lives in Palm Desert has posted several times on Instagram about a Harry Potter themed coffee shop called Steamy Hallow. Beside normal coffee it has specialty items like a frozen butterbeer blended drink and mini Harry Potter birthday cakes (like the one Hagrid gave Harry). I knew when I visited the area recently that I had to try it. First off it wasn't easy to find. You can't just put it into maps on your phone with the name of the shop. I used the address on the website and first I was taken to a random strip mall. Then when I did it again it took me to the right place. It is in the Westfield Mall in Palm Desert. Which as long as you know that it is easy enough to find. They should have that on their website. It is a small coffee shop. Only room to wait in line. It is pretty modern looking. One wall has shelves with Funko Pops and other Harry Potter items. Another small wall has some wands on display. There are some stuff...
